Aurea was born in Spain to a non-Christian family. First, she married but was widowed. After this, Aurea became a Christian and entered a convent. This upset her family and they denounced her to the Moorish authorities of the time. Aurea was thus beheaded.
I’m all about family drama (I have been known to enjoy a few episodes of The Kardashians). I went through some of my own when I was in high school. There was an incident with a permission slip not being filled out correctly and me not being able to go to the diocesan youth rally unless my parents fixed it and lawyers got involved. I ended up going to the rally but not without a lot of family drama surrounding that decision. It was because of this situation and at this rally that I heard God speak to my heart, “I am all the family you need,” which is now tattooed on my arm in Latin.
Anyway, Aurea looked family drama in the face and said, “Do your worst.” And you know what? They did. They took her life. That’s the ultimate drama and like, I’m not suggesting you go this route, but that’s pretty badass. To be able to look death in the face, your family in the face, and say, “I know there’s more than this and you will not keep me from it,” that’s a big deal. Reminds me of the Little Mermaid.
St. Aurea, pray for us!

This is a really special reflection. Thank you for sharing it. And yeah, Ariel was SUPER brave. My favorite Disney princess for a time until Belle took over. 😄
